The Serre Chevalier Vallée Nordic ski area stretches along the valley, along the banks of the Guisane river. Nordic or cross country skiing brings together a number of disciplines that combine sliding and walking in a relaxing setting. These tracks can be used for walking with or without raquettes and even taking the littles ones for a sledge tour. Take a look at the map here.

Ski touring is another level. Hire some split skis or boards and head up with family, friends or alone to seek out magical views and solace in the back country, where everyone goes at their own pace to find unique and unforgettable moments.

Now situated at an altitude of 2491m, enjoy the 1100m descent on the ski zip line. Whip your skis or board off and fly like a bird down the mountain above fellow skiers to catch a view unlike any other.​

250km of piste, an altitude of 1200m to 2800m, 60 ski lifts, off piste tree runs and 80% of slopes based above 2000m meaning it keeps the snow. Featuring a snow park with easy to challenging boxes, rails and kickers to try and there are two funny cross and boardercross for those that want a challenge. Rarely do we have queues and the off piste is incredible. Enough said.

If you fancy a different kind of challenge, hire a fat bike for the day. These bikes are equipped with extra wide ‘fat’ tyres that make cycling in the snow a cinch. Quite the experience.

If you strumble upon a hut and fire you have most likely found the Sugar Shack. Not only can you grab a vin chaud but you can throw axes, launch empty ice shot glasses across the mountain and dance around a fire. Mad I know!

Fancy something adrenalin pumping and different. Now open in Briancon is a complete area dedicated to practicing kite boarding. If never tried before it is best to get a teacher for the day.

Grab your friends and head off for a mad ride down 2000m of piste with a 300m vertical drop on a 3 wheeled mountain kart. Absolutely mad, but really fun! Minimum height is 1.40m

Head to Aravet lift in Villeneuve and grab a sledge and helmet. Once at the top enjoy the long descent down with friends and family (from 12 years old) in a simple sledge. The twists and turns will be an unforgettable experience

During the season there are dates where the mountain sticks on the flood lights and invite you to enjoy some night skiing. Skiing under the stars is quite the experience or enjoy watching one of the torchlight descents if you are done with skiing for the day.

Pack your rucksack with your favourite foods and head to one of the three free BBQ areas at the peaks of the valley. Enjoy the view whilst eating a lunch cooked by yourself on the griddles provided which operate daily between 1130 and 1500.

Photo opportunities are there if you head to the mid station at Chantemerle, with photographers ready to grab a shot of you in your new get up or take that perfect family ski holiday photo.
